Apples Make Bones Stronger

Apples help the people, who suffer from back problems, as well as the women, who are at risk for osteoporosis.

Apples are high in antioxidants that help to strengthen bone density. According to scientists, bone strength depends on the activity of two types of cells – osteoblasts, which form bone cells and osteoclasts that destroy them. If the osteoclasts are too active, the bone tissue does not have enough time to restore and becomes weakened. Antioxidants in apples reduce the effects of osteoclasts.

The experts advise older women who are prone to osteoporosis to eat apples. In addition, they believe that other round fruits, especially red ones, may have the beneficial effect on bone health. These fruits are generally rich in lycopene, flavonoids, resveratrol and other substances which contribute to bone health. Together with such red or orange fruits, the experts recommend eating dairy products that are rich in calcium and drinking beer (it is also good for the bones).
